Whether you’re Sudburian who loves everything local or someone hitting the road for Up Here 10, you’re in for a treat: The RBC Northern Series is back, bringing you an array of free, local concerts that help you start your evenings on the right note.

Presented by RBC, this series redefines happy hour at two of your favourite spots—Knowhere Public House and The Townehouse Tavern—from 5 to 7 pm, allowing you to sip and dine to your heart’s content while discovering new sounds.

Here’s a sneak peek at who you can expect to see.

Nicholas Cangiano

Friday, August 16, 5 pm, Knowhere Public House

North Bay–bred and Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Cangiano employs a deceptively laid-back vocal style over loops of enticing guitar melodies, groovy bass lines, lush keys, and smooth percussion. His memorable, catchy hooks keep listeners coming back for more, creating a sonic experience that is both relaxing and engaging.

Medussah

Friday, August 16, 5 pm, The Townehouse Tavern

Now this is a show you can watch without turning into stone! Maybe. Medussah is an experimental electronica musical duo based in North Bay, Ontario. They range from rock to dance and translate sound from heavy and hazy, carrying you to outer space and back on a mythical musical journey. Their performances are as unpredictable as they are mesmerizing.

Morgan Vie

Saturday, August 17, 5 pm, Knowhere Public House

Morgan Vie is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Espanola, Ontario, now deeply immersed in the vibrant music scene of Montreal. Growing up in Northern Ontario, Morgan developed a profound connection to nature, which fueled their artistic exploration. Now based in an energetic urban environment, Morgan's music blends R&B, funk, indie folk, and pop, creating a unique and captivating sound that bridges the gap between their rural roots and urban experiences.

City of Lakes Music Society

Saturday, August 17, 5 pm, The Townehouse Tavern

The City of Lakes Music Society is a not-for-profit arts organization focused on fostering the appreciation of classical chamber music in and around Sudbury. They present concerts and facilitate workshops and lectures for amateur musicians, aiming to educate and increase the understanding of and appreciation for the arts. Expect to hear classical masterpieces in public places, senior citizens’ homes, churches, community centres, and educational institutions.

Mistaken for Wayne

Sunday, August 18, 5 pm, The Townehouse Tavern

Mistaken for Wayne is a small-scale organic farmer and musician whose forthcoming EP, This Time of Year, stems from the view outside his windowpane: the cycle of seasons, nature’s evolution, and time passing. His music focuses on sustenance—whether through a harsh winter, a hard love, or an artistic pursuit. He makes music with a sunburnt sleeve, portraying rural life and the nature around us all.

Cassidy Houston

Sunday, August 18, 5 pm, Knowhere Public House

Weaving experience into inspiration, Cassidy Houston creates music as an ode to the resilience and beauty of love, life, and the queer spirit. With each lyric and chord, their indie folk style captures the essence of adventure, the pain of unspoken truths, and the joy of living authentically. Their songs are open-hearted conversations, confessions, and declarations, set against the backdrop of Northern Ontario’s blossoming yet ever-evolving beauty.

Join us for the RBC Northern Series and experience the diverse musical landscape of Northern Ontario.

Whether you’re a fan of classical chamber music, indie folk, experimental electronica, or a fusion of various genres, there’s something for everyone. Don’t miss these free concerts that highlight the incredible local talent right here in our community. See you there!
