Sudbury Insider Tip: Where to Find the Best Non-Alcoholic Drinks
Not drinking? Not to worry: There are plenty of delicious, refreshing beverages that just happen to be non-alcoholic to quench your thirst leading up to, or during, Up Here 5. Here are just a few!
Salute: Maple Latte
Made with local maple syrup, espresso, milk (I suggest trying it with oat milk!), and available blended or over ice, this drink is perfectly poised to capture everything Canadiana during Up Here. One of the newer additions to downtown, Salute has made their mark with delicious baked goods and smooth espresso-based drinks. Salute’s two locations (downtown on Elm or in the South End on Armstrong) are serving up tons of coffee, teas, pastries, and wifi.
Kuppajo Espresso Bar: Watermelon Lemonade
Perhaps the freshest tasting drink to enjoy all summer: The folks at Kuppajoe are blending up fresh watermelon, adding ice cold lemonade, and pouring it over ice for a beverage that is sure to quench your thirst! Kuppajo is a great place to stop to enjoy the best of summer fruit and even contribute to the suspended coffee fund to pay a coffee forward. Located downtown right on Larch St., you can find delicious baked goods, sandwiches (my favourite is The Picnic), and local handcrafted items for sale.
Old Rock: Cold Rock
Featuring their roast of the day, this semi-namesake drink is a shot of espresso with a vanilla flavour shot and cream, poured over ice to keep everything nice and cold. If you’re looking for a Sudbury-esque souvenir to remind you of your time in the North, you can find several different roasts at their spot on Minto. Take home La Slague or Bluecoat Blend for the most Nickel City cred.
Laughing Buddha: Something About Rosemary Mocktail
Besides the obvious nostalgia that comes with thinking about the adorable Cameron Diaz in the movie of a similar name, this creative mocktail is the perfect way to enjoy the Laughing Buddha’s gorgeous patio. Made with Seedlip Grove 42 (citrus), lemon ginger kombucha, ginger simple syrup, and finished with peaches and a rosemary ice cube, this drink shows off the originality of the Buddha’s entire menu. A really chill place to stop downtown between shows, the Buddha’s drink and food menu is sure to impress.
Twiggs: Cappuccillo
This blended coffee-based drink sweetened with caramel, chocolate, and vanilla, is sure to hit both the desire for coffee and dessert, all in one cup! The cappuccillo is a delicious variation on an iced cappuccino, topped with whipped cream. Right off of the Kingsway (right beside Stitch & Stone and the Microtel), Twiggs is serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is open most nights until 11 p.m.
