Artist Statement

When we grow up we often get caught up in the everyday grind. Stress of responsibilities can burden our minds, and we can quickly lose sight of the things that bring joy.

This mural is a reminder and invitation to reconnect with the curious part of our selves: to learn from the openness that comes from pausing and opening our eyes, asking questions, living with wonder, playing a little, connecting with the moment, and taking some time to slow down.

Lauren is a double ice cream cone: one scoop social worker, one scoop graphic designer, and a waffle cone of passion for bringing the two together with community organization, because “there’s a little art in every heart.” When she isn’t thinking about how to change the world, you can find Lauren cozying at home with her dog and spouse.

Lauren was programmed to paint a mural in 2021 but had to postpone due to an injury. We're excited to have her paint at Up Here 8.
