The more things change...

Over the past three years, we've explored many ideas. We started with the vastness of the the cosmos. Then, we found new worlds and a terraformation started. Last year, we took out our microscopes and discovered that germs and microbes were forming. We found life, and sustainability.

Now, life has started growing and transforming into something new.

This year's theme is mutations.

In nature, errors occur and mutations happen all the time. Mutations can be both positive and negative. Mutations drive evolution, they change social discourses and ultimately transform the way we are.

In pop culture, think X-Men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Godzilla. And then there's the not-so-fun side of mutations: Chernobyl, radiation, and Blinky the three eye-eyed fish in The Simpsons.

We like to think of Up Here as a laboratory festival for the creation and presentation of new art. We're looking for artists to help us create the festival experience. Let this page serve as an inspiration for you and your project (but also feel free to completely ignore it if you've got a really cool project to propose).

Artist submissions for Up Here 4 closed on February 2nd, 2018.

All submissions are currently being evaluated by discipline by the Up Here Artistic Committees based on artistic merit, timing of latest releases, pertinence of the project with this year's theme (slightly less pertinent for music projects) and pairing with other artists in the lineup. Due to the high volume of submissions, only successful applicants will be notified.
